When mom and dad were called to work at the
Baptistry in the Mesa, AZ temple, it was intended to be a 1 year
calling, no more. Now, 5+ years later they still have the calling. I
am convinced that this “1 year calling” has been stretched out so long
for one of the following reasons:
1) Dad loves it so much that they don’t dare take it away.
2) Dad loves it so much that he has begged them (behind mom’s back) not to release them.
You think I’m kidding about the second one, but I would not put it past him.
In
all seriousness, he LOVES the Temple and, other than serving someone or
building something, it may just be his favorite thing to do. Many
people don’t know that the calling requires them to give up their
Saturday’s, beginning around 2-3 in the afternoon up until +/-10 p.m.
Every
Saturday. Anyone who is LDS or who works a day job knows how precious a
Saturday
is, yet Dad always loves it. To my knowledge, it has never
inconvenienced him to the point that he has ever complained. Not once.
I will forever be grateful to my dad for his unquenchable love of the
Temple and for his tireless efforts in making it a priority in his life.
