Jeff Karchner is an amazing man with some fun stories to tell. However we all know some of the best stories are the ones shared by others. This blog has been organized and written with love by those who know and love Papa the best.

A funny memory
I don’t know why this story is so hilarious to me, but it is… I will
never forget the time that dad tried to teach Rusty, our first dog, how
to jump into the bed of his pickup. (That was back when you could
actually fit something into the back of dad’s truck!). Dad started out
by tapping on the open tailgate and offering up a few “Here Rusty, here
Rusty, jump!” Then, when that didn’t work, Dad flailed his arms in the
air trying to make the motion of leaping from the ground to the truck
bed with his hands. He even tried nudging the dog a few times and
squatting down to give him a little extra encouragement. That stupid dog
just sat on the pavement and stared at him with the blankest stare
there ever was. So, dad got this wild hair idea that he was going to
SHOW Rusty how it’s done. Dad got down on the ground next to Rusty and
leaped (quite impressively, I might add) up into the bed of his truck
with me, Lee, uncle Randy and that blasted dog all watching. The only
thing that came of dad’s valiant attempt was a giant split in his blue
jeans from crotch to belt loop!
